¿Quién soy?
I am a large rodent. My thick and sparse coat is brown. Like a hippopotamus, my eyes, nose, and ears are on the top of my head, allowing me to look above the water surface to breathe and look for predators. I usually live in groups of up to 30 individuals.
¿De qué me alimento?
My diet is mainly herbivorous, and I feed on vegetation near water sources and other aquatic plants. I can eat up to 3 kg of fresh herbs a day. I am also coprophagous, which means I eat my feces, which contain beneficial bacteria that help my digestion.
¿Dónde vivo?
You only will be able to observe me in the wild from the eastern Andes of Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, the Guianas, Brazil, Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay, and northwestern Argentina. In Peru, I live in the rainforests of the Amazon.

When I feel threatened, I jump into the water and hide under the surface. There I can hold my breath for almost 5 minutes!
