¿Quién soy?

I am a seabird with a white head and neck. My wings, back, and tail are dark brown, and my legs are blue-gray. Some people may confuse me with a seagull however, I have a different fishing strategy, where my fast flapping and almost vertical dive distinguishes me from other seabirds. I nest in coastal areas and rocky islands.

¿De qué me alimento?

I eat mainly anchoveta (Engraulis ringens), occasionally catching sardines, mackerel, and other species.

¿Dónde vivo?

I live in the coastal region and offshore along the Humboldt Current and a little further in the north. You can find me from Ecuador to Chile.

Para que me conozcas mejor

I am considered an important species of guano bird. Guano is a well-known natural fertilizer, which helps fertilize crops thanks to its high nitrogen content.
