I am a nocturnal mammal. The females of my species are usually smaller than the males. My head is big and rounded, and my ears are short. My fur is greyish, and my face is white with a spot around the eyes resembling a mask.

I am a herbivorous turtle; I eat mainly herbs, leaves, and fruits especially cacti.

I live in the arid lava lands of the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador.

Before the massive arrival of visitors to our island, we used to be very abundant. However, our population was decreasing fast because sailors took us to their boats as a source of fresh meat, plus the arrival of exotic species such as dogs, cats, and goats has damaged our fragile ecosystem.
