¿Quién soy?
I am a large domestic camelid. I have diurnal habits and I like to live in large family groups. My species was domesticated several miles of years ago (some scientists estimate between 6,000 and 7,000 years). I am a pack animal resistant to low temperatures and high altitudes.
¿De qué me alimento?
I eat grass, leaves, and tender stems.
¿Dónde vivo?
I like to live on plateaus and lands with bushes and grasses. You can find me in the Andean highlands of Peru and Bolivia. However, I have been taken to different parts of the world as a pet.
Para que me conozcas mejor
Made for heights.
The high amount of hemoglobin in our blood, plus the oval shape of our red blood cells, give us exceptional adaptations to survive a high-altitude environment with low oxygen pressure.
