I am a mammal of diurnal and terrestrial habits. I have a slim body, short legs, and a small tail. My coat is grayish-black, and my head is flat with small whitish ears. I am a skilled swimmer, and I often hike trails and wetlands in search of food.

I have a mainly carnivorous diet. I can capture small mammals, birds, amphibians, and invertebrates. Occasionally I eat some fruits like bananas.

I live in a wide variety of terrestrial habitats generally near water bodies. You can find me from Mexico to Peru and Bolivia.
