¿Quién soy?

I am a freshwater turtle, and you will recognize me by the presence of a prominent spot on each side of the head. My skin is olive green, with yellow lines. My serrated shell is oval and has a beautiful olive green color and spots with longitudinal black and yellow bands. I am active during the day, so you can find me taking sunbaths on the branches, trunks, or stones of the water bodies where I live.

¿De qué me alimento?

I feed mainly on aquatic plants, fruits, mollusks, insects, and fish.

¿Dónde vivo?

I like to live in lakes, lagoons, cenotes, and ponds. My species is native to Mexico and the United States.

How do turtles nest? We are an oviparous species. During the reproductive season, the females look for a suitable nest, usually in sand or river banks. Then, they dig a hole 10 to 20 cm deep and lay 5 to 25 eggs per clutch.
